Tumors
in nerves could form anywhere in your body. Majority of these tumors are
usually found in the peripheral nerves though. The peripheral nervous system is
made up of 43 pair of nerves which are responsible for healthy motor
coordination, sensations and movement control. The peripheral nerves are
interconnected through an intricate, complex system, and could be extremely
dainty. Tumors, when formed inside a nerve- has the potential of causing
irreversible damage to it, if left untreated for a long time. Nerve tumors
normally start out as non-cancerous and with time, starts to enlarge in size,
and has the potential of turning malignant. This expansion, in turn puts excess
pressure to the nerve tissues and eventually cause the nerves to bulge out of
proportion.

categories- Schwannoma and Neurofibroma.
Types of nerve tumors:
Schwannoma- Schwannomas usually form along nerves of the neck and
head. Vestibular Schwannoma, also known as acoustic neuroma, damages the nerve that links the inner ear to the brain. This type of tumor can easily have a bad impact on your
body’s balance. Schwannomas normally do not spread quickly, but just like any
other medical conditions, these tumors can become large enough to constrain
vital structures of the brain and associated nerves, if not treated in time.
Neurofibrosarcoma- This nerve condition most often develops in people who
already have the genetic disease known as neurofibromatosis.
This type of tumors are commonly found to affect the limbs (legs and arms). In rare cases though, it is quite possible
for it to spread to areas like the back, waist (lower back) and head. Compared
to Schwannoma, neurofibromatosis are more prone to spread along the nerves.
Lungs are the most vulnerable organ when it comes to the spreading of
neurofibromatosis.
The
causes behind the development of nerve tumors are still unclear to the medical
world. But it is proved that people with particular types of genetic or
inherited diseases are usually the ones to develop a nerve tumor at some point
in their lives. Neurofibromatosis type 1 and type 2 are the two of the most
common congenital conditions that lead to nerve deformities like peripheral
tumors. Symptoms of a developing nerve
tumor includes- issues with balance, skin lumps, loss of sensation in certain parts
of the body or sharp, pricking pain in the affected area.
